This lead to me unlocking a lot of spirits, but could only use a third of them without changing my parry timing. My problem with it was, that i tried them all, and only really could get used to one of them (the blue form). All three categories of the yokai counter have different timings and strengths.
It also determines your parry/counter for enemy special attacks. This category determines your Yokai shift, which is the replacement for the old living weapon. In Nioh 2 your spirits fall in one of three categories (basically red, green and blue). You could freely switch between this spirits at checkpoints and try different builds. You could enhance spirits with by leveling a designated spirit stat. In the first part you got a living weapon depending on your spirit, and it felt like some cool hypermode. The main difference (for me) was the new spirit system. It's been a while since i have played it, but i did not like the combat changes. But in Nioh 2 i was somewhat glad when i killed the final boss and was done with the game. I played the first game on PC and got all Achievements, so i was pretty hyped for part 2. I guess i am kinda in the minority, but i liked Nioh 1 more.
